Additional Ways to Support the Parish

Remembrance Gifts: Please consider a gift to our Parish to honor the memory of a deceased friend, family member or colleague, or add to your own end of life planning the request that, “In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas More Parish, Durham, NH.”

Bequests: Everyone should consider a will as part of their estate planning. The will stipulates that all obligations and taxes be paid first and then the remainder be distributed according to the wishes of the decedent, i.e. bequests. While most people “wish” to take care of their loved ones, many would also like to remember their Parish or a favored charity. This is accomplished with a bequest, which may take one of the following forms:

  • A specific bequest in a particular amount: after all obligations have been satisfied: “I leave the amount of $_____ to St. Thomas More Parish, Durham, NH.”
  • A percentage: a bequest of a particular percentage of the total amount left to be distributed: “I leave X% to St. Thomas More Parish, Durham, NH.”
  • A residuary bequest of all that is left after all obligations and the stipulations of each article of the will are satisfied.

Additionally, bequests can be restricted or unrestricted. The restricted bequest must be used for the purpose stipulated in the will (e.g. to purchase altar supplies, to support the parish’s religious education programs, to support the food pantry).  An unrestricted bequest can be used by the Parish at its discretion for its most immediate needs.

These are two of the simplest ways to help support our Parish. Your financial advisor, accountant or attorney may offer other suggestions that are appropriate to your specific circumstances and wishes.

Stock Transfer: A stock can be donated to the Parish by an individual. The most efficient way to do this is via wire transfer to the Diocesan broker directly. Once received, the proceeds will be credited to the Parish. It is important to include the name of the Parish you wish to receive the donation.
